Taxes and VAT on UP Faith & Family Purchases
Beginning September 1, 2020, applicable taxes (such as sales tax or VAT) may be collected on UP Faith & Family purchases depending on your location.
Below are answers to common questions about tax collection.
Which Purchases Are Taxed?
Taxes or VAT may be applied to all transactions, including:
- Initial subscription purchases
- Subscription renewals
- Video purchases
- Video rentals
If you see a tax subtotal during checkout or on your receipt, this means you are in a region where we are legally required to collect and remit tax.
How Is the Tax Amount Determined?
Tax rates vary based on your location and are calculated using the applicable local tax laws at the time of your transaction.
Please note:
- Tax rates can change over time
- The final amount is determined by your billing location
Where Can I See the Tax Amount?

New Purchases:
You will see the tax amount displayed at checkout before completing your purchase, as well as on your emailed receipt. -
Existing Subscriptions (Renewals):
Tax rates are not displayed prior to renewal. However, taxes in the U.S. typically range between 4.5% and 10%, depending on your location. -
Purchase History:
You can view taxes charged by navigating to:
Menu (top right) → Settings → Purchases
What If I Am Tax-Exempt?
If you are tax-exempt (such as a U.S. nonprofit organization or a business with a valid VAT ID):
- Complete your purchase (including tax)
- Submit a request to our support team: https://upentertainment.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
- Provide your tax exemption certificate or VAT ID for verification
Once verified:
- We will refund the tax amount
- Your account will be marked as tax-exempt for future purchases
- An updated invoice can be provided upon request
